Growing up, I remember Hot Cross Buns as a once-a-year-fresh-out-of-the-oven-with-butter-and-I’ve-been-waiting-for-ever-to-eat-some event. So these days when I see them in the supermarkets months before Easter, it just seems, well, wrong.

So, it’s almost Easter now, and today we (I know, we should wait, right? :)) sampled some Hot Cross Buns courtesy of Bakers Delight. I agreed to share details about their buns on my blog, as they are doing good this Saturday March 24, by hosting a ‘Bundraiser’ Day to raise over $100k for hospitals. Their bakeries will donate $1 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold this Saturday,  to different children hospitals across the country including the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

They also sent me three Bakers Delight $10 vouchers to give away, so if you live in Australia and would like to win one (to spend on buns, bread, pastries…whatever!) please leave a comment below by midnight AEST Saturday 24th March and I’ll draw three random winners and post the prizes next week. Must say, we enjoyed our sampling. Were the buns any good? They boys asked for seconds! And despite insisting on tasting the chocolate chip buns first, they were quite happy with the traditional buns. It was too warm outside to think about putting the oven on today, so I gently toasted the buns in our toastie maker (for those who didn’t eat them fresh out of the pack.) It worked a treat! As you can see above, I enjoyed mine with a cup of tea…

…and I also enjoyed tasting a little of the toasted choc too, and I’m fussy when it comes to chocolate!

Now, for my regular readers, I realise that I have posted two blog posts in a row about food.  Yes, I have a sweet tooth. So unless someone sends me some tasty pastries to try tomorrow, I will write about something else next time :)
