Two years ago I joined in #Frocktober to raise funds and awareness about Ovarian Cancer Research. I didn’t have many frocks at the time and had to borrow a few to make it through 31 days of dresses!
Since then I have been keeping an eye out for bargains so that I could do 31 days of frocktastic fundraising again. I’ve found frocks for parties at op-shops, good quality second-hand designer dresses at bargain prices on eBay and I’ve bought a frock or two on sale!
Now I’m half-way through Frocktober and I have 2 more weeks of fundraising to go! So far I’ve raised over $500…almost as much as I raised in total in 2011. But I’m aiming higher and hoping to raise $1000 by wearing a different frock each day this month, come hail or shine!
From their website:
Every ten hours, one woman dies from ovarian cancer in Australia. The key to changing this statistic is early detection.
Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed in its late stages and only 20%-30% of women will survive beyond five years of diagnosis. In comparison, survival rates increase to 80-100% when ovarian cancer is detected and treated early.
The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is Australia’s pre-eminent ovarian cancer research body. Our goal is to raise ovarian cancer awareness and vital funds for the development of an early detection test that will save women’s lives.
We receive no government funding and rely on the support of our community and business supporters to assist in driving our research forward.
Together we can raise awareness of ovarian cancer in Australian communities and the importance of developing a detection test that identifies the level of ovarian cancer in a patient and its extent of advancement. A test that can greatly improve long-term survival rates of Australian women.
They would love your support, and I would love your encouragement for sharing my frocks, accessorising every day and still somehow getting three boys to school on time (well, almost every day) and taking selfie after selfie (introvert alert!) It’s all for a great cause and I’m so happy that some of you have already donated. THANK YOU!
Here are my fun frocks so far. You can make a donation my Frocktober page!
and now at the half-way mark!
PS It was great to go back to life drawing today group. I had to put it on hold for a little while, but I’m back and its great to spend two solid hours in the creative zone. What do you like to do to nurture your creativity?
